No runway required — the proposed hub of a national eVTOL air-taxi network. A build target, not a built place.

How it would work

  1. The site

    A compact vertiport pad at the capital — no runway — sited by the harbor and city center for port-to-city and waterfront hops.

  2. The aircraft

    Pure eVTOLs (Joby, Archer, Wisk, Vertical) take off vertically and fly quiet, electric, short legs; eSTOL craft use short strips for longer hauls.

  3. The network

    Havana anchors a national grid of air taxiports at ports, cities and the cays — linking ports ↔ airports ↔ cities without new highways.

Recent industry milestones (2024–2026)

  1. Nov 2024

    The FAA finalizes SFAR-120, its powered-lift pilot-and-operations rule — the framework to certify eVTOL air-taxi pilots and fold the aircraft into US airspace (the first new aircraft-category pilot rule in ~80 years).

  2. Nov 2025

    Joby flies the UAE's first crewed point-to-point eVTOL flight, from its Dubai test site to Al Maktoum airport; it holds exclusive Dubai air-taxi rights and targets commercial service by end-2026. Archer began flight tests in Abu Dhabi.

  3. Jul 2026

    Dubai unveils what it bills as the world's first certified commercial vertiport. No fully commercial paying-passenger eVTOL service has launched anywhere yet — the layer is arriving, not arrived.

Where it stands

Nothing exists yet — this is a proposed build target. Cuba is a long, thin island with scattered cities, ports and airfields: a natural fit for small electric aircraft that need only a pad, not a runway.

The opportunity

Build the air-taxiport layer with verified US & European eVTOL makers and vertiport operators. A greenfield network could leapfrog road congestion and connect the island's dispersed hubs directly — a next-gen mobility layer above the roads and airports.
